" SHPE has provided me with the confidence to go out and pursue my career goals. It allowed me to meet different people with different goals in life from all over the country. SHPE has taught me how to present myself and how to deal with different situation in a professional matter. The workshops have provided me with many of tools needed in today's industry (writing correctly, dressing appropriately, etc.). The experience gained from being at the career fair is incredible! You learn from your mistakes first hand and when you get that first interview, it just builds your confidence that you can go out and do this! Besides all the benefits from the extra curricular activities (the parties), the best advantages of joining SHPE (besides getting your dream job) is the contacts that you make each year. I believe that I have at least one friend in every major US city, and that is something that I least expected coming into this organization as a freshman. "

"I received my BSEE in December of 2004. Throughout my years at Purdue, SHPE played an important role in my career development. Through SHPE I have acquired extensive experience at working job fairs, interacting professionally with others in my field, and networking. As I embarked on my job hunt upon graduation, I was able to land interviews with Proctor and Gamble, Johnson and Johnson, General Mills, and General Motors through SHPE. I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend these conferences and job fairs. There is so much opportunity! How many chances do you have to speak with representatives from several Fortune 500 companies within a few hours time? SHPE has also played an important role in my peer network. I have made many friends that I am in contact with regularly that I met through SHPE as well as other professional organizations. It comes in handy at times to know people all over the country functioning in a variety of different engineering roles at a variety of different types of companies. It is a great way to stay informed of possible opportunities. "

"SHPE was a great source of leadership in my life. I was the 2003-2004 SHPE President, and during this period I was able to develop my network and leadership skills. SHPE has made me become a better speaker, communicator, and administrator in my personal and professional life. I graduated with my bachelor of Electrical Engineering in December 2002 and went on to continue my Masters in Engineering and finished in December 2004. Nowadays, I work for Procter & Gamble as a Process Controls Engineer, my role is to integrate and update new technology into a manufacturing production line, and deliver with integrity and efficiency." |
