Welcome to PUCCO

The Purdue University Calumet Construction Organization, PUCCO, is a student organization for the Construction Technology Department, founded in 1979 for Construction Department students.

Founded as a social organization, an aid to further student's development and to increase professional contacts within the construction industry, PUCCO membership is open to current students, and graduates of the Construction Technology major as well as to Industry Professionals.

With a $25 membership fee, you can learn how to use tools, gain experience and resume references, receive notice on scholarships, have a mentor, meet other students and participate in fun social activities, learn teamwork, attend national tradeshows, and receive a t-shirt.

Student membership also includes student memberships in the Associated General Contractors (AGC) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Through community volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April and other community service projects, members:

  • Unite and promote fellowship among those interested in the construction industry
  • Familiarize the campus public with the professional character of the construction industry
  • Expand the student member's knowledge of the construction industry and practices
  • Promote communication between PUCCO members participate in activities that teach hands-on skills used in the Construction Industry.
PUCCO members gather for paintball war
Above: PUCCO is not all about work. We have fun as well. In addition to our annual campus BBQ and golf outing, PUCCO members recently competed with other Purdue students in a paintball war.

In addition to community work, members also attend trade shows and work on fund-raisers to continue our efforts.

To join, fill out a membership form in the CMET office, attach your $25 dues, and drop it in the PUCCO box.

If you would like to speak at a meeting, please contact the CMET secretary at (219)989-2332.

How PUCCO got started

Professor Emeritus Ralph Bennett

PUCCO was initially formalized in the CET 431 class that was held in fall of 1979.   William Neufeld approached Professor Ralph Bennett, along with his friends in class, and asked Professor Bennett if he would help the students organize a Construction Department student organization.

The first two years were spent writing the constitution and bylaws, having monthly meetings which included speakers, field trips, and dances.  Professor Bennett was the club advisor from 1979 to 1989.  He has served as co-advisor for many years after that time.
