Fellow IIE Members,
On behalf of the IIE officers and the Purdue University Calumet staff I want to welcome you back to school for the 2002 Fall semester. We wish all of you the best of luck!
As president it has been a challenging year for me. I entered into the position with many goals for our chapter. Not all of the goals were achieved, but we definitely made progress. It has truly been a learning experience and I am very thankful for all of your support. As IIE members we hold the challenge of promoting our organization as well as our profession. We have made progress in trying to achieve this. We have just been awarded an office space that will be shared with other school of technology organizations. We have plans to use the office as a mentoring and tutoring room and we hope that you will support us in that endeavor. We have also partnered with students in the Computer Graphics program so that we may create marketing materials for undecided and high school students. These are just a few of the things that we are working on. Many members have also expressed interest in beginning efforts to find internships, co-ops, and jobs for our members. We have always wanted to do this but we need those and other members to get involved and organize such a project. I became involved with IIE through similar projects.
We also ask that you please look at our Events page. We will be updating the page regularly to inform you of upcoming events. Participation is not mandatory, but I speak from experience when I say that participation helps build your leadership and team working skills. We have a lot going on this semester. Soon we will begin to move into the new office in the Anderson building. We are also planning on sending a group of students to our regional conference at the West Lafayette campus. Pucco has also expressed interest in having another paint ball war outing with us. We will keep you informed of these and new events that come up through out the semester.
One last request, as I get ready to finish my term as president and graduation this December. We need new members to get involved and take up the ranks of officers to lead the new generation. It is a great opportunity to gain leadership and networking experience. All that is required is a couple of hours per week for a life time of valuable experience.
I wish all of you a healthy and productive semester. If you need any assistance with schoolwork or guidance please let your IIE chapter know and we will do everything possible to help.
Sincerely, Juan G. Salinas President Institute of Industrial Engineers Student Chapter 822 Purdue University Calumet
