ARTICLE I
Name
Section I:
This organization shall be known as the Purdue University Calumet Chapter #822, hereinafter called the Chapter, which shall have been granted a charter by the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
ARTICLE II
Objectives
Section I:
The object of the Chapter shall be to promote the profession of Industrial Engineering through organized effort in study, research, and discussion of the fields of Industrial Engineering and the dissemination of knowledge thereby gained. The Chapter shall promote membership in IIE by acquainting the student body with the ideas, purposes and objectives of IIE.
ARTICLE III
Membership
Section I:
Any person who is enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate college curriculum in engineering or engineering technology which culminates in a bachelor's or associate's degree, or in any graduate-level degree program which will enhance professional competence, and who is also a member in good standing with IIE is eligible for membership in the University Chapter. The term "full-time" implies that the prospective member's principal pursuit is higher education through enrollment in a college or university. This does not include an individual engaged in full-time employment who is incidentally pursuing studies on the side.
Section II:
All members of the University Chapter are subject to the Constitution and Bylaws of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
ARTICLE IV
Student Council
Section I:
The Chapter is classified as a professional organization and is to be registered with the appropriate College and/or University Student Council. The Chapter is directly represented in the Student Council. The regular annual dues for all University Chapter members shall be twenty dollars ($20.00) per year, which is paid to IIE and remitted to IIE Headquarters. IIE Headquarters will return two ($2.00) dollars of the annual dues to the University Chapter in the form of a rebate.
Section II:
The Chapter shall be authorized to request from its members a voluntary contribution for the Chapter Treasury, in addition to the amount collected as chapter dues. This amount shall be given directly to the Chapter Treasury for use by the chapter and will not be handled through IIE Headquarters.
Section III:
Student applications for membership are evaluated at Institute Headquarters in Norcross, Georgia.
Students will individually receive the grade of IIE membership for which they qualify.
ARTICLE V
Nominations
Section I:
At least one (1) meeting will take place prior to election for nomination of officers by Chapter members. Nominations can be closed ballot, open, or other method that is approved by the majority of Chapter members present during nomination. Only Chapter members are eligible for nomination.
Section II:
Nominations will be made for at least one (1) Chapter member for each upcoming open office. Permission of the candidates for final election must be obtained. If nomination and acceptance cannot fill an office position by a nominee, then it should be understood that the remaining officers would assume duties and responsibilities of the open office.
ARTICLE VI
Elections
Section I:
Elections shall be held in November.
Section II:
New officers shall take office on December 15 and continue through December 14 of the next year as a minimum, or as a maximum the second following year.
Section III:
Special meetings will be called to elect new officers to fill any vacancies that may occur, provided that written notice of this meeting, its purpose, and office to be filled has been posted on the Industrial Engineering bulletin board or mailed to all members at least ten (10) days prior to the date of such a meeting.
Section IV:
No student shall be elected to office if graduating before completing at least one year in office.
Section V:
No officer may hold a particular office for more than two year.
Section VI:
A majority vote of all members present shall be necessary to elect an officer.
Section VII:
All elections shall be by secret ballot.
Section VIII:
Impeachment of any officer may be accomplished only upon presentation of just and reasonable cause for such action to the Faculty Advisor of the chapter and, upon the Faculty Advisors approval, with a two-thirds vote of all enrolled members of the University Chapter, subject to review by the Group Vice President-Chapter Operations.
ARTICLE VII
Meetings
Section I:
The Chapter shall hold regular semester meetings during the school year, with the exact date determined by the Officers.
Section II:
Notice of all meetings shall be posted on the Industrial Engineering Bulletin Board (or other appropriate bulletin board) or mailed to all chapter members at least ten (10) days prior to the date of the meeting, and may be further publicized in any manner the Publicity Committee deems necessary and proper.
ARTICLE VIII
Programs
Section I:
Regular meetings each semester shall be primarily devoted to the profession of Industrial Engineering and may be accomplished in connection with a dinner or refreshment.
Section II:
A field trip or other professional function may be scheduled in lieu of a regular monthly meeting.
Section III:
At least one field trip or other professional function shall be scheduled each academic year and must be supervised by the Faculty Advisor.
Section IV:
Social functions may not be scheduled in lieu of a regular monthly meeting.
ARTICLE IX
Duties of Officers
Section I:
The President, as Chief Executive of the organization, shall supervise the organization affairs and activities. The President is the executive, administrative, presiding and reporting officer. The President shall be responsible for public relations, publicity and promotion of the organizational activities. The President will appoint a representative to the Joint Engineering Council at the University, if one exists, and will work with the Faculty Advisor, the Institutes Vice President for Student Development, and the Region Area Vice President in all Institute matters.
Section II:
The Secretary/Treasurer shall be responsible for posting and/or mail as well as various paperwork correspondences required between the University and IIE headquarters.
