January 13, 2007 - New Head Coach announced, more..

Purdue University Calumet Club Baseball is proud to announce the hiring of a new head coach, Dave Funk. Dave hails from Calumet College under Dan Soria where they recently had one of the most productive years in school history. Dave is also an instructor at John Mallee's Pro Style Hitting School in Griffith, IN where our team will be holding its indoor practices for the next 6 weeks. John Mallee is the Hitting Coordinator for all levels of the Florida Marlins franchise. John is as excited as Dave and all of you guys about the upcoming season and they have both have promised to do everything they can to help us succeed.

Indoor practices are Thursdays 9:00-10:30 PM and Sundays 7:30-9:00 PM starting January 18th. All practices at John Mallee's are MANDATORY. We are paying good money to be there, and you all paid your dues, so take advantage!

Conditioning and indoor fielding practices at PUC Fitness Center will also be held two nights a week for two hours. One hour conditioning and one hour practices. Days and times to be announced, check the calendar for reminders and updates.

Finally there is a team meeting TONIGHT in the Calumet Falls TV Room in the Student Union at 6:30 to discuss the upcoming events and practices and to meet Coach Funk. Be there or be square.

January 6, 2007 - Uniforms!

I posted a sample of our proposed uniforms in the Pictures section. We want everyone's input on this design, so let us know. We need to order these very soon!

January 2, 2007 - Updates (IMPORTANT)

First of all, Happy New Year everyone. Hopefully your breaks went well and no one died on New Years Eve/Day. It is time to start getting in baseball mode again, and soon we will be back in the gym as well as starting some drills and things.

I do, however, have some rather sad news. Yesterday I received an email directed towards Rob Jensen (the AD) and myself from Coach Klaich informing us of his resignation from the team. The letter cited issues in his personal life preventing him from committing himself in full to the team. Coach Pena has also unfortunately followed suit.

At this time Darren and I are pursuing leads we had received previously to coach our team and of course everyone will be updated when more is known. Darren, Denny, and I are fully committed to leading the organization through this setback and have no intention of closing up shop. We still have 30 games to play and we are doing our best to see that it happens.

In other news, we have enough money to order the uniforms for the team and we are going to be doing that in the next 2 weeks. We have maintained our contact at Blythe and will be getting the same pricing we had previously. Also, if anyone else is interested in stepping up to be an Executive Member of the organization and helping us get the things done that we need to do, please call us right away.

The Madden Tournament is still scheduled for January 28, and the school still has not gotten back to me on the approval of our sponsorship letter. I am going to be in touch with the Business Office this week concerning that. I need everyone to email me or call me with a list of 2 or 3 businesses that we can present our letter to. These should all be businesses that you have an "in" with, so ask your parents and family for suggestions.

December 16, 2006 - Sponsorship Letter

Our letter for sponsorship requests has been submitted to Student Services and the Business Office for review. Hopefully we will get this cleared next week and be able to start submitting it to companies. More info to come.

Also this week a few of us have been going to the gym and throwing and doing some infield drills inside the gym. If anyone is interested joining us, call me or Darren.

December 15, 2006 - Madden Tournament

Cancelled again. Rescheduled for January 27, 2007 at 10:00am. Take advantage of the delay to tell more people. That is all.

December 4, 2006 - Our Office, Dues

Today we got our keys for our office in SUL. It is room 344E and we share it with the Society of Women Engineers. We have a computer, desks, file cabinets, and a mail box, but no phone line unfortunately. Its pretty cool but we need some stuff to decorate it with. Maybe some of you guys have some baseball posters or something laying around you could contribute :) Also I made an AIM screen name "PUCBaseball" and I will leave it signed on here, also the team email is pucbaseball@gmail.com.

Also please do not forget that club dues are required to be turned in this week! $100 for all of us. Once we get that turned in, we will be able to apply for the money from Chancellor and we will be up to about $5500 in the bank!!! Very important that everyone gets that turned in ASAP!

Have a good week guys.
